Is it the music? The food? The decorations? The presents? What makes Christmas unlike any other holiday? If you answer, “all of the above,” you’d be right, but there’s more. No other holiday saturates our senses and dominates our calendars for an entire month. Christmas is all about anticipation. Once Advent season begins, each day brings us closer to the day that we’ve been pointing toward. Finally we wake on Christmas morn rejoicing with the angels that, “The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born!” (Luke 2:11; NLT)
December is a busy month here at SHUMC. To help you prepare your hearts and engage your spirits, we have prepared an Advent Devotional Booklet with a reading and reflection for each day. These have been written by various members of the church and are offered to all as a gift. Read them carefully and take a moment, before the overly crowded calendar of the day seizes your heart, to connect with the reason for this season.
